Meet Ma Alice, at 83 years young, is our Senior of the Month.

Alice, at 83 years young, is a vibrant soul who brings life and laughter to her senior group on Cosa Avenue. With a heart full of warmth, Ma Alice is this October’s "Senior of the Month."

As the leader of her senior group, Alice wears her title with grace and authenticity. Her dedication to creating a close-knit community is evident: she is the glue that binds the group together, making sure no one ever feels left out.

In fact, she went as far as having custom polo shirts made. The fact that they choose not to wear them is a source of banter, adding an element of camaraderie to their gatherings. But Alice's influence doesn't stop at fostering a sense of togetherness; her zest for life is infectious. She's a living example of how to embrace aging with a positive outlook.

Though she's a proud mother to five children and a grandmother and great-grandmother to too many to count, Alice's influence extends beyond her family; she keeps her senior club alive as a haven. It provides a place for seniors to disconnect from the weight of their family responsibilities, including childcare for their grandchildren. In Khayelitsha, where family responsibilities can be burdensome and the streets are often marked by violence, the Masimanyane club serves as a sanctuary for its members.

In Alice's world, there's no such thing as slowing down. She proves that age is just a number. Whether it's attending Tuesday’s Health Club, Thursday’s Sewing Class, or sharing her homemade delicacies, Alice's energy and enthusiasm are truly inspiring.

Ma Alice
