Dr Frank Kronenberg

Dr Frank Kronenberg (Dutch), lives with his family in Cape Town/South Africa. He is a co-founder of the movement Occupational Therapists without Borders.

His education, research and practice intends to disrupt and regenerate apolitical and ahistorical occupational therapy and theorize a political historized humanizing praxis.

Besides working as a guest-lecturer at universities internationally, Frank serves as Chair of Grandmothers Against Poverty and Aids (GAPA) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Deputy Chairperson

Sivuyisiwe Toto

Sivuyisiwe Toto was born in Mthatha and grew up in All Saints, Engcobo – his eastern cape home. He is also from Guguletu in Cape Town. He is a member of the AmaQwathi OoDikela clan. He is an avid hiker, runner, and walker.

Siwe obtained a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2013 and recently, an MSc in Occupational Therapy, both at UCT. He has worked as an Occupational Therapist in Matatiele, Khayelitsha, New Crossroad, Lwandle in Somerset West and Groote Schuur Hospital.

He currently works as an academic, teaching first-year students at the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT.

Treasurer

Wim Schippers

Wim has a background in accounting and financial management and has been involved in community activities for many years. He has assisted GAPA in the last few years in his capacity as treasurer.

Board Member

Zoliswa-Xazele

Zoliswa Xazele was born at Simonstown. Her dad’s surname is Ngodwana and is from the Royal family of ooDlamini ooZizi. She went to school in Gugulethu and Thunalethu in the Eastern Cape and for her Tertiary education, she completed her Psychology studies at University of South Africa (UNISA), ETDP (Education Training and Development Programme), Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation at University of Pretoria (UP) and has obtained other short courses with different institutions.

Zoliswa has worked with different institutions and departments, she is proactive and currently occupying voluntary roles.

Mentorship

Dr Khosi Kubeka Khosi

Dr Khosi Kubeka Khosi was born and brought up in Soweto where she obtained her primary and secondary education. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at the University of Cape Town in 1996 to study Social Work. While at UCT, she developed a keen interest in social research and decided to pursue it at post graduate level. In 2000, she was awarded the National Research Foundation (NRF) scholarship and the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) scholarship to pursue an MPhil in Social Research Methodology at the University of Stellenbosch.

In 2003 she was awarded the J. William Fulbright Scholarship, which made it possible for her enrol at The Ohio State University in the United States where she obtained an MA and PhD in Sociology. She graduated in 2010 and returned to UCT where she worked as an AW Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Social Work & Social Development under the guidance of Professor Vivienne Taylor. From 2011 to 2013, she worked as a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Social Work & Development. In 2014, she was appointed as a lecturer in the department.

She is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Acting Head of Department. Her research and teaching interests are in youth developmental wellbeing within the context of community development. She teaches courses in youth and community development and research methodology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is also the director of the Social Intervention Research Unit that is housed with the Centre for Social Sciences Research (CSSR) at UCT.
